Raising the Grands

Many grandparents today aren’t enjoying the luxury of a relaxed and undemanding relationship with their grandkids. With more families being separated because of divorce, because more parents of young children are both working outside of the home, and just because parents may be overly-involved in financial struggles or personal problems, many older parents are finding that they are now raising their children’s children. These grandparents are now the ultimate care-givers for their grandchildren and this changes the role that they were meant to have. However, grandparents can and do have profound influences on children regardless of the nature of the relationship. Although you may actually be raising your grandkids rather than just enjoying them, you still can perform as a wiser, mature loving parent that a younger, busier and less mature parent could not be. You can transmit strong moral values. You can have a clear set of rules based on Godly teaching. And you by your experience have learned more and gained more wisdom that will bless your grandkids. Family experts say that grandparents have the second most influential relationship with children after their parents. If you are the grandparent and the parent – you singly are the most important person to your grandchild and you can certainly provide something that no one else can for them. A home. Safety. Security. And unconditional love.
